The decline of Princeton Basketball

A columnist in Slate applauds The fabulous decline of Princeton basketball.

But with quotes like this -- "For one thing, by neutralizing the advantages enjoyed by the team with superior size or talent in any given contest, it made upsets more likely. For another, when run properly, it's simply a lot of fun to watch" -- one wonders whether almunus Richard Just has ever watched a Princeton game.

To those who have not had the joy, a Pete Carril offense can be summed up thus "Pass, pass pass, 3-point shot. Pass, pass, pass, 3-point shot. Pass, pass, pass, 3-point shot."

Difficult? Probably. Effective? Occasionally. Exciting? Hardly.

Glenn's mom worked for Coach Thompson at Princeton and she followed him to Georgetown. That meant I had to watch a lot of Princeton games. SNOOOOOOOOOOZE. You're totally right about their strategy. Most boring basketball ever.
