So very old

Apparently, as you age, you lose the ability to hear high-frequency sounds. According to this piece in the Times, students are exploiting this by using those tones as their cellphone ringtones, so they can secretly use them in class.

So, I'm reading the piece, and it says quite clearly "most adults over 40 or 50" can't hear the tones. OK, I think, I'm 34! No problem! Let me play that sample.

Nada, nothing.

But of course, the toddlers working down the hall all start saying "What's that sound? What is that? Do you hear that?"

Grr.
